Building our Community

The Steward School offers need-based financial aid for students in JK-12, as well as merit-based grants for Upper School students. We believe a diversity of talents, abilities, and cultures among our student body offers a rich and well-rounded educational experience, and our merit grants and financial aid program support this goal. We never stop working to make Steward as affordable as possible. To learn about our tuition and fees structure, click here.

Curious what your financial aid award might be?

Use the calculator below to estimate your family’s award per student by providing answers that most closely resemble your financial picture.

This is only an estimate. Actual award size will vary based on more detailed information reviewed during the financial aid application process, including your household income, mortgage or rent, assets, consumer debt, investments and savings, and number of children in tuition-paying schools.

Financial Aid

Affording Steward InfographicThe Steward School gives more than $1.9 million in need-based aid each year. Our financial aid packages are grants only and do not include loans. This program is designed to help ensure that all academically qualified students have access to a Steward education. We understand that your family has many financial priorities, and school costs must fit into your budget, today and in years to come.

We know that you’re planning for the future, so rest assured that our goal is that the award you receive this year should remain consistent unless your financial circumstances change.

Our team is available to help guide applicant families through the financial aid process. As in everything we do, we strive to treat every family with care and respect for the individual. Read Director of Admissions Robin Oliff's perspective on why access matters in this article.

Families have the opportunity to confidentially inquire about financial aid during the admissions process or at any time during a student’s enrollment at Steward.

Merit Grants

A recent survey by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS) established that out of all the private schools in Richmond, Steward is a city and statewide leader in offering merit awards.

We are pleased to offer the Debbie Robson Merit Scholarship, which provides four years of full tuition for up to two rising ninth-grade students who have distinguished themselves academically and in extracurricular areas such as athletics, arts, innovation, or community service. For more information and to apply, click here.

Steward also offers additional merit awards for students who are new to Steward in the Upper School, made possible by a generous and anonymous donation. The awards will be granted based upon character, which is central to the Steward mission, and other factors. For more information about these awards and the application process, click here.
